The project ?Water and Recovery of land degradation: Changing the Scenario? proposed by the Farmers United of Pindaíba Association, will be implemented in communities of Pindaíba and Córrego do Ouro, benefiting 65 families directly.

The project´s activities include construction of dams, terraces and water containment systems, piping systems for supplying water for the community of Pindaíba, water source fencing enclosure of a significant water source, recovery of areas suffering from land degradation, organizing two courses on water recourse administration, two courses on soil management and organizing two traditional events.

The project´s goal is to improve the environmental quality through sustainable practices of water and soil management, and rescue traditional cultural practices in the community. The region of the Jequitinhonha Valley is considered one of the poorest regions in Brazil, showing low levels of Human Development Index. The impact of eucalyptus monocultures worsens the situation as it contributes to reduction of bodies of water and land degradation, resulting in frequent migration patterns from rural to urban regions.

There is no indigenous participation in this project.

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the amount of water available in rivers and reservoirs, become conscious and aware of the need for conservation of the area.
