Capacity building for community managed wildlife areas in Kenya
Kenya Wildlife Conservancies Association will work with several group ranches to build the capacity of communities in wildlife managed areas in Kenya. The overall goals of the project are to develop partnerships and tools that will enable KWCA to share knowledge and experiences with local and international organizations that have a similar mandate, create an enabling policy and legal environment that strengthens conservancies and lastly, creates upscale best practices through strengthening regional associates and conservancies. Through three specific objectives KWCA plans to make these goals come to life. The first being the creation of a national platform for the community conservancies through effective linkages with similar organizations in Kenya and Africa as well as various developing tools for conservancy establishment. Additionally, KWCA plans to strengthen the capacity of regional wildlife conservancies by encouraging a stronger engagement with county governments and individual conservancies. Lastly, the project strives to provide a platform for conservancy landowners to exchange knowledge and share best practices to enhance sustainable management of conservancies.
