Capacity - Building Component

In the project 30 young people will be benefitted with capacity building activities to help ensure social and environmental community enterprise, such as: 16-hour course for joint and solidary economy and 360 hours of specialized technical assistance for the development of future association or cooperative of agroecological beekeepers based on articulation and mobilization of productive group of native bees.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Native bees are more suited to use local flowers and vegetation, without destroying them or assisting in the reproduction of non-native predatory vegetation. The introduction of native beekeeping in the daily activities practiced by these communities will insure a sustainable economic alternative to conventional farming.

Notable Community Participation

The project will contribute towards agroecological production of native bees as a means to create incentives for community development of 5 rural communities in Pentecostes and Apuiarés, Ceará. To help insure sustainable practices the project will be articulated in a network of regional beekeepers as a means of forming a corporation and regional association.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

Project Results

3 solidary rotating funds were implanted since the return of the resource referring to the donation of the boxes of bees. 30 meliponiculture (honey and beeswax products) are involved with revolving funds;
A collective meliponario was built to work with the jataí and jandaíra bees;
251 visits were made to provide technical assistance;
Productive activity increased family income by 40%;
An unplanned marketing workshop was held to coordinate the Nectar Network;
Three courses were held with 30 participants each: associationism and cooperativism; Production and marketing of honey products; And solidarity economy and revolving funds;
Participated in the project 27 families from 13 communities, composed of 14 young people and 2 elderly people;
The areas in recovery for apiculture pasture is a total of 60 ha, where 1500 were planted;
Three exchanges were made, one to visit the UFC and two to the beekeepers of Rede Néctar do Sertão.
