Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

Indirect contributions for raising public awareness of global environmental issues will be made by iimplementation of Agroforestry. Activities in schools, courses, information exchanges and workshops will contribute to this end.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project will contribute to the establishment of sustainable livelihoods for the local population through local development and social incentives, education on sustainable practices and truism establishment as a means of economical and cultural incentives.

Notable Community Participation

The region is threatened by big scale agriculture which have devastated preserved ecosystems. The indigenous community is willing to work together to insure preservation, food security, a look at truism possibilities in the area, sustainable production to strengthen their culture and agricultural practices.

Gender Focus

Women are the majority in numbers involved in the project. 120 women versus 80 men.

Capacity - Building Component

Workshops, courses, community information exchanges about environmental education and sustainable agriculture are planned in the project.

Project Results

1,000 environmental education books and 1000 copies of the fauna and flora inventory were printed;
Two agroforestry courses were held, training 43 people; 2 socio-environmental diagnostic workshops with the participation of 30 people; 3 training courses in environmental education with the participation of 11 people; 3 popular inventory workshops; And a training for tourist guides with 15 young people.
5 hectares were converted into agroforestry systems;
Ecotourism and environmental education activities have an impact on the entire indigenous land, which totals 1,731 ha.
5 trails were recovered and flagged;
20 selective collection bins have been installed, but there is not yet a separate public waste collection service;
In total, 65 families, comprising 34 women, 31 men, 15 young people and 10 elderly people participated in the project;
