Environmental Governance Knowledge Multipliers
Environmental Governance Knowledge Multipliers
Environmental conditions in Egypt are deteriorating, according to respective UN, national and international governmental and nongovernmental institutions. Egypt reached that level of environmental deterioration; because of:
i)Weak government policies, strategies and interventions to protect and improve the environment;
ii)Insufficient programs by CSOs in general, and Environment-Focused CSOs in particular; to protect and improve the environment, and promote environmental Governance, at the local and national levels; and
iii)People?s environmentally improper behavior/practices, due to lack of environmental awareness, shortage or absence of environmental sanitation systems, and lack of the know how to participate in environmental governance.

Therefore, the proposed project will develop institutional capacities of 3 Egyptian NGOs/CSOs/NSAs (the main implementing NGO and 2 partner-NGOs ); so that they can:
i)Establish an NGO-Network for Promoting/Advocating for Effective Environmental Governance & Management (EG&M). The Network will Plan, implement and manage effective advocacy campaigns to influence the Egyptian legislators, judiciary and Government (especially Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs and Ministry of Interior/law enforcers), to adopt more effective policies, strategies and take more rigorous measures to protect and improve the environment in Egypt;
ii)Plan, implement and manage programs/projects/activities to enable citizens and CSOs to effectively practice social accountability in the field of environment protection/development, versus the governmental and private sector?s environmentally damaging practices;
iii)Plan, implement and manage programs/projects/activities to change the people?s environmentally improper knowledge, attitudes, and practices/behaviors; and
iv)Establish efficient systems for monitoring and evaluation, documentation, information management and communication; so that they can properly document, manage and disseminate information about ?hazards of environmental pollution?, ?how to protect and improve the environment at the local and national level?, ?environmental governance?, ?Social Accountability?; in addition to the lessons-learnt, best practices and success stories in promoting and advocating for Environmental Governance, with peer-NGOs at the national and international levels
