The planning grant seeks to prepare a full proposal for the GEF SGP on the rehabilitation of the Kolam & Kawasan Rekreasi Cheras Jaya, Balakong, Selangor, which is a site with an area of 32.72 acres located at the confluence of Sungai Balak and Sungai Langat. This site had been gazetted as recreational area by the local council in 2007, however no action has been taken by local council to manage this wetland. With the aim of involving local communities surrounding this recreational site, it is hoped that a long term conservation and recreational plan of this area could be developed in order that the communities can benefit from the rehabilitated wetlands and restored ecological functions. With the planning grant, TrEES will be able to develop, design and produce the area design plan, conduct stakeholders consultation meetings with key government stakeholders and local communities, and gather preliminary information on that recreational area.
