Biodiversity conservation through afforestation of 100 acres in Booharki Forest UC Kadhan Badin
1) MoU with Forest Department
A formal MoU will be signed with the District Forest Department. Various tasks will be divided among the implementing organization and the forest department in order to achieve the objective of rehabilitation of 100 acre forest.
2) Assigning of 100 acre forest part by the Forest Department for rehabilitation
100 acre of the Boharki forest will be allocated by the forest department to the implementing organization. This allocation will be formal one in written and will be kept on record. Rest of the activities will be started after allocation of the 100 acre forest land for the rehabilitation.
3) Ploughing and leveling of 100 acre forest land
The 100 acre allocated land part of the Boharki forest will be ploughed and leveled so that cultivation of new trees can be done easily. This will be done through using tractors and the volunteer community groups.
4) Rehabilitation of forest irrigation channel
The Raj Wah irrigation channel which is sanctioned to feed the Boharki forest will be rehabilitated. Total 02 Kilometer of the channel will be rehabilitated in order to ensure water reaches to the newly rehabilitated Boharki forest.
5) Coordination with Irrigation department for sanctioning irrigation water for 100 acre
Once the channel is rehabilitated, the District irrigation department will be consulted in order to ensure the sanctioned water to be flowed into the channel for the rehabilitated part of the forest.
6) Procurement of trees for plantation on 100 acres
Total 100,000 trees will be purchased from forestry department and the private nurseries. 10,000 trees will be purchased per acre.
7) Plantation of 100,000 trees on 100 acre through community participation
Total 100,000 trees will be planted in the rehabilitated 100 acres of the forest. 10,000 trees will be planted per acre. Local communities will be actively involved in the plantation process of the trees.
Objective 2: To provide forest management training to VDO members.
Activities:
1) Formation of VDOs in targeted villages
Total 10 villages are connected with the targeted part of the Boharki forest. Total 300 households reside in the above villages. 00 Village Development Organizations will be formed in the targeted villages. These VDOs will be comprising of the village elders and village social activists and the youth. These VDOs will help to provide volunteers for the plantation of targeted trees. Along with this, these VDOs will also assist the organization in organizing the forestry trainings and ensure the participation of the local communities.
2) Preparation of training material (IEC material)
The IEC material on benefits of forests and its care and management will be prepared with the help of district forest department. These IEC materials will be printed in the shape of posters and brochures for mass distribution and display. Most of the IEC material will be based on the less instructions and more pictorials.
3) Organizing 10 training workshops for VDO volunteers
Total 10 training workshops will be organized in targeted 10 villages for the communities. District forest department will provide the forest experts as trainers, while the implementing organization will organize the events with the help of VDOs. It will be ensured that the communities are well aware about the benefits of forests including how to care and manage the forest resources at community level.
