SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY BASED MANGROVES PLANTATION PROJECT
Activities proposed in the project are mainly focus on forestation, conservation and rehabilitation of Mangroves and involving the local community for the plantation of Mangroves on various selected/identified spots/sites in the proposed areas.
Objectives and Proposed Activities
Objective 1 : Conservervation and Plantation of Mangroves (Aviciena) on 500 acres.
Activity Streems
? Intensive survey of the area/spots/sites has to be undertaken before the plantation of Mangroves.
? Establishment of Nursery.
? Transplanting of nurseries to the proposed area.
? Plantation of Mangroves in the proposed areas.
? Establishing a Project Office.
? Hiring of a Project Staff.
? Purchasing furniture and fixture.
? Coordination meeting with forest department for the participation and technical support.
? Encourage local communities to plant and nurture Mangroves Tree.
Objective 2: Improve the livelihood of the local fisherfolk communities through sustainable use of mangroves
Activity Streems
? To create awareness about the Mangroves.
? Improved natural resources management (mangrove forest) of Shah Bunder.
? Improved livelihood security and equitable benefit sharing through better natural resources management practices (Mangroves) with the support of different stakeholders
Indicate impacts on participants / beneficiaries.
Along with the successful demonstration of GEF Conservation Mangroves Project will lead to impact as follows:
7.1: Related to Humans
? Health Impact:
The increasing number of Mangroves would have great impact in improving public health, especially rural coastal areas where health facilities are minimal.
? Social Impacts:
The social impact of Mangroves is to keep coastal environment neat and clean.
? Economic and Financial Impacts:
Mangroves will provide alternative livelihood opportunities.
7.2: Related to Environment
? : Land Related Impacts
Mangroves can reduce the pressure of sea erosion that will stop the salinity in the fertile lands.
? Air Related Impacts:
Mangroves can tolerate very high level pollution by sinking CO2 and to purify the air for the better health.
7.3: Demonstration Value
Project design revolves around the demonstration of the promotion and plantation of Mangroves for conservation of nature.
7.4: Experience Value
Lesson learnt during the implementation of project will be shared in the consultative meetings and seminars at district level. Experience will documented as a ready references for the future intervention.
7.5: Potential Risks
The targeted area is prone to sudden onset disasters such as tropical cyclones and floods. Such situation can create hindrances in achieving stipulated objectives and time frame.
