Improving environment through energy efficient technologies and mass sensitization campaign on biodiversity and environmental issues
Participatory rural development project will be implemented in 10 target villages. To reduce environmental degradation, emission of smoke and greenhouse gases by the introduction of energy efficient technologies and reforestation is the prime objective of project activities. Project objectives includes:
1. To promote adoption of improved fuel efficient technologies by introducing fuel efficient cooking stoves tested by SAARC.
2. Introduction to model biogas plant
3. Plantation campaign through school children to raise their awareness for plantation and conservation of biodiversity
4. Building capacity of women by providing training in kitchen gardening for improving their livelihood
Objective 1: To promote adoption of improved fuel efficient technologies by introducing fuel efficient cooking stoves tested by SAARC.
Activities:
? Mapping and survey of the area
? Mobilization meetings and consultations with the community
? Procurement of 250 units of energy efficient stoves
? Selection of most deserving community including widows, disabled, marginalized community
? Distribution of 250 units of energy efficient stoves
? Organize entrepreneurship trainings for manufacturing, installation and maintenance of the fuel efficient stoves for five (5) persons
Objective 2: Introduction to model biogas plant
Activities:
? Selection of beneficiary
? Selection of place
? Installation of one biogas plant as a model
Objective 3: Plantation campaign through school children to raise their awareness for plantation and conservation of biodiversity
Activities:
? Conduction of awareness campaign regarding biodiversity conservation and plantation practices among school children and community members.
? Development of IEC material, brochures and posters on conservation of energy and reforestation for awareness of school children and community
Objective 4: Building capacity of women by providing training in kitchen gardening for improving livelihood
? Development of IEC material and training manual
? Training to 20 women on Kitchen gardening
? Provide seeds for growing vegetables at home.
Project Deliverables:
Following results will be achieved after implementation of project activities.
? Sensitized and mobilized 2000 community members for adoption of fuel efficient technologies
? Increased adoption of energy technologies by 250 hosueholds
? Reduction in GHG emissions and increase in carbon storage by deploying 400 fuel efficient stoves
? Five (5) entrepreneurs trained in manufacturing, installing and maintaining of the fuel efficient technologies
? Alternative renewable energy models of biogas plant installed and demonstrated
? 150 School children are aware and sensitized about environment degradation and reforestation practices
? Capacity built of 20 women in kitchen gardending through imparting training
Project will target the poor community members that rely entirely on fuel wood for cooking and heating purpose. Targeted beneficiaries includes household that lack easy access to energy, located in the proximity of Kalla Chitta reserve forest, fetch fuel wood from reserve forest, use wood or agriculture residue, located permanently, includes 7 or more dependent, have low income, widows and possess acute or chronic diseases due to excessive inhalation of three stone stove smoke. Households headed by female will be given special emphasis and with the children which have developed or are at high risk of developing acute disease caused by smoke. Gender mainstreaming will ensure that women are properly and effectively represented in all activities.
Result based process monitoring mechanisms and tools will be developed for the project monitoring. SMART indicators would be developed for the monitoring of the process as well as achievements of the project with the use of quantitative and qualitative indicators. Result based process monitoring mechanisms and tools will be developed for the project monitoring. SMART indicators would be developed for the monitoring of the process as well as achievements of the project with the use of quantitative and qualitative indicators. For that purpose clear role and responsibilities would be assigned to the relevant teams, responsible for field monitoring and reporting the monitoring process.
The adoption of FES by rural households provides gender, health and safety, time and income benefits. In rural villages of Tehsil Jand, women and girls collect fuel-wood for the household. Existing stove design are of such low efficiency, that, women and girls are forced to spend much more time fetching fuel-wood, reducing the time available for other important tasks, such as education and income generation. This project is designed to enable local people to improve the quality of their lives through improved management of their natural resources and through the adoption of new, cutting edge appropriate energy technologies.
The cumulative effect of FES includes health benefits through reduction of smoke emitted, time saving for cooking and wood collection and investment of money that is consumed to collect wood.
Adoption of FES will reduce pressure on natural resources, enabling local communities to restore and manage local forests more appropriately. Local environmental problems i.e air, water, soil pollution and land degradation have also contributed to the need for assessing environmentally sound energy options.
The project will seek to maximize its effectiveness and efficiency by empowering women and vulnerable groups to participate as equal partners in information sharing and generation, education and training, technology transfer, organizational development, financial assistance, and policy development.
Following overall result will be achieved.
? Mobilized and sensitized 2000 community members for adoption of fuel efficient technologies
? Increased adoption of energy technologies by 250 hosueholds
? Reduction in GHG emissions and increase in carbon storage by deploying 4250 fuel efficient stoves
