Provision of Communal Solar Lights and solar Lamps in 10 villages of Taluka Shahbunder, District Thatta of Sindh Province
Objective 1: Promotion of Energy Efficient Technologies through installation of communal solar lights and provision of solar lamps in 10 villages of Taluka Shahbunder.
Activities:
1.1. Hiring of project staff and one day orientation workshop
1.2. Identification and selection of villages.
1.3. Developing villages profile on energy options.
1.4. Installation of 12 communal solar lights in 10 selected villages
1.5. Provision of 200 sloar lanterns for households in 10 villages of Union Council Shah Bander.
Objective 2: Awareness raising and capacity building of community members, local government representatives, media, CBOs on sustainable use of energy sources
Activities:
2.1. Organizing collective community meetings.
2.2. Formation of 10 community based organizations.
2.3. Organizing sensitization session on use of low cost energy resources and maintenance of solar lamps.
2.4. Organizing 20 consultative meetings with elected representatives, district government representatives, media persons and NGO/CBOs for promotion of low cost energy methods in coastal areas.
2.5. Organizing Road shows, village level publicity workshops in 10 villages.
2.6. Organizing U/C level seminar on the project products and its impact.
2.7. Organizing district level Environmental Sensitization workshop.
2.8. Development of IEC Material on different sources of low cost energy methods.
2.9. Dissemination of IEC Material in the area.
Expected results of project:
? Community-based enrgey resource management in project raeas.
? Provision of 200 Solar Lanterns in seleted villages of Shah Bunder Taluka.
? Installation of 12 communal solar lamps in 10 selected villages of Sahah Bunder Taluka.
? local community is involved in use of low cost energy sources for sustainable management system.
? Moblize service providers and communities to use alternate sources of energy.
Anticipated Results
Along with the successful demonstration of GEF-DWDO products in the area, project will have larger impact in the area. It is expected that project will have following impacts
? General improvement in health of women, children, men and the elderly? because of better in-house and surrounding environmental conditions causing decreased incidence of disease.
? Increased social cohesiveness and access of the community to adopt energy efficient products and replicate them.
? General increase in living standard of trained entrepreneurs by increased income in service and sales, and replication in other areas.
? Improvement in community households? disposal income through savings on heating, cooking and health related expenses, and reduction of unemployment.
? Increase in forest productivity through reduced use of wood and timber for energy.
? Improvement in quality of air through reduction in CO, CO2 and other gaseous emissions, and more forests to act as sinks
Demonstration of livelihood improvement products to conserve energy in the shape of installation of energy efficient products.
