? Nature of the proposed activity
The proposed activity aims at 1) reducing environmental pollution by adopting solar powered products and through discouraging use of harmful energy producing products/practices, and 2) improving livelihoods of the targeted communities by increasing working capacity of small enterpreneurs.

Anticipated Results

Reduction in household air pollution: energy produced through kerosene oil, candles or firewoods results in smoke which polluates household air and badly affects the health of the family memebrs. Solar Lights do not pollute air and make environment safe for the family.

Reduction in harmful effects on health: Dim light of candles and traditional lanterns also strains eyes and smoke causes lung diseases.

Increase in working and study hours: No light or dim light reduces working capacity of small enterpreneurs and students. Solar lights increase intensity of light and enhance visibility for them.

Cost Saving: Cost of such traditional energy sources is often 5 to 10 percent of the total household income and use of solar products will reduce this cost and save their income. Once the communities adopt these solar powered products, their houses will be free of air pollution, working capacity of the small enterpreneurs will be increased, students will get more study hours at night, their monthly expenditures on traditional energy sources will be reduce to zero.
