Raising community capacity for sustainable fisheries management in Kwale County, Kenya
The project aims to facilitate implementation of marine conservation and sustainable utilization activities to improve fish stocks and biodiversity in the CCA areas of south coast.
The project expects to empower communities to manage their resources sustainably, which will be enhanced by the review and approval of co-management plans for the CCAs and putting in place appropriate institutional and regulatory frameworks, thus ensuring that poverty levels are significantly reduced, food security in target areas significant increased. The project will enhance and diversify IGAs including cultural tourism and food processing, to promote livelihood development and community-based sustainable fishery. This will strengthen local management t structures that provide for participatory management of resources; positive changes in perception and behavior of target communities towards marine and coastal resource management.
