Rehabilation of Njokavi river ecosystem project
The project aims at conserving the Kiang'ombe hill and Njokavi river ecosystem. Project will construct sand dam along the river to be used for livestock, water for domestic use and tree nursery development.
The main objective of the project is to improve livelihoods through conservation of the Kiang?ombe hill and Njokavi river ecosystem.
The specific objectives of the project are:
Construction of 1 sand dam along River Njokavi which will be used for livestock, domestic, tree nurseries and provide water round the year.
Establishing new tree nursery and upgrading their existing ones - the seedlings will be used for afforestation as well as generate some revenue for the group. The CBO targets to produce a minimum of 200,000 assorted seedlings per season

Project Characteristics and Results
Notable Community Participation
Local leaders will be constituted to spearhead mapping of sites for establishing the project?s activities such as tree nurseries, sand dam construction.
A tree nursery will be set up with a minimum of 200,000 seedlings planted per person.
Two cattle troughs will be built.
60,000 seedlings from the nursery will be planted along the Njokavi River and the Kiang'ombe hill.
The community members will participate in each stage of implementation from the onset to the end of the project. They will provide non skilled labour, local materials for construction, establishing and management of the tree nursery and planting of trees. The community will therefore contribute 30% of the total project cost.
Gender Focus
The project will include women in leadership as a deliberate effort. Specifically, the project intends to ensure at least a 30% representation of women in every project activity. The project targets a wide range of community members include men, women, youth and those physically challenged.
The project will ensure availability and access of water thereby reducing the time spent in search of water hence releasing women and children for more productive work.
Income from the tree nursery will be shared across genders (women, youth and men) thereby improving their livelihoods.
