Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project focuses on improving livelihoods through the construction of 8 seed units which will assist the community in building better infrastructure for storage and distribution so they can work on improving production, harvest and profit skills.

Gender Focus

The project hopes to integrate both the younger generation and the women from the community.

Planning non gef grant

The project strengthened the Pouso Alto Regional Agroecological Network as a unplanned result. The project was also disseminated in seven important state events and one National Seminar of Agroecological Education, in Rio de Janeiro.

Notable Community Participation

There is an incentive in the community to promote seed production plan of 4,000 seedlings of native species of the Cerrado. The community will help build 8 local seed storage units as a means to create incentive to fares and workshops. The main participants will include local farmers, women and young people from the community, a total of 15 people working directly with capacity building and also participation of about 160 people.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

Capacity - Building Component

capacity building activities include hand on workshops on how to use, prepare and harvest the land, including guidance on fertilizer use, administration and distribution.

Project Results

4.272 kg of three varieties of traditional corn produced; 130 kg of purple beans, 16 kg of beans used as green manure and 60 kg of rice - USD 1,000 marketed;

The project supported three editions of the Chapada dos Veadeiros Fair of Seeds and Seedlings, which involved 700 people each between smallholders, university, local government, National Park's team, among others.

Capacity building promoted to 320 people from 9 communities - 6 Agrarian Reform Settlements and one quilombola community.
