Notable Community Participation

The project will take place in the Tauá, Parambu and Quiterianópolis communities. Members of the communities will assist in restoring native seed in the region, lost in the recent drought season. Over 900 local farmers will benefit from the project and 600 families are participating in building 20 storage units to help farmers preserve seeds for production.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project´s goal is to improve the quality and safety of native seed in the region, along with a system of seed administration and cultivation.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

Project Results

- 19 communities benefited from the project through access to Creole seeds for breeding.
- An exchange of seed exchanges was carried out between farmers during FEST BERRO;
- Twelve workshops were held on seed houses, covering 13 communities;
- The purchase of 80 sacks of corn seeds and 80 sacks of bean seeds was carried out for delivery to the producers involved in seed maintenance initiatives;
- In total 638 families are beneficiaries of the project. 304 women, 66 young people and 149 elderly people are directly involved. 416 people were trained.
- In total, 19.6 hectares of agroecological fields are being cultivated;
- The project was announced at the festival FEST BERRO on two radio stations;
- 584 saplings and 110 seedlings of native plants were delivered to beneficiary families;
