The strategy of knowledge management will be a systematic process of tracking and documenting every activity of the project. These will help us to establish an information base, which we will synthesise into knowledge acquired from the project. This knowledge will form the basis of lessons learned and best practices adopted in project implementation, and this will be an invaluable asset for replication of this project in future. This strategy of collection of data, interpreting data into information, and synthesizing and analysing information into a knowledge base will not only enhance our knowledge about project activities, but also greatly help in monitoring and evaluating this project in terms of its effectiveness and performance.

This is a community-driven project in which community participation and involvement will be paramount. The project was in the first place borne out of consultations with the community of Gbondapi. LAD had two meetings with representatives of the artisanal fishermen, youths and the women?s group to discuss the problems they are facing with the fishing industry. The project idea evolved from these discussions and as a solution to the myriad of problems presented from the discussions. As the community has been involved from project identification, we will ensure that they will be involved in project development and execution entirely. LAD believes that it is only with the full participation and involvement of the community, including the traditional and country authorities that this project will succeed. Community members will be recruited and trained in the construction of the new ovens to enhance future replicability of the project in other localities. A major element of this project will be capacity building in conservation of freshwater ecosystems as a means of empowering the local community for the purpose of continuity.

Women?s groups shall be the main beneficiaries of this project. Practically in the Gbondapi fishing industry, like all other fishing environments in Sierra Leone, women take the responsibility of fish processing and marketing. Therefore they are directly involved in wood cutting to support fish-smoking. When the men go out at sea fishing, it is women who manage home affairs and cater for food. Women are therefore pivotal in the execution of the activities of this project. It is with this consideration that we propose to involve the women?s group in all project activities and decision making from its inception to conclusion.
