Sustainable utilization of fresh water ecosystems in Gbondapi fishing communities
This project will introduce the concept of conservation of fresh water biodiversity, through the establishment of fish ponds and energy-efficient fish-smoking stoves in Gbondapi Fishing communities. The overall objective is to reduce the pressure on fresh water fisheries, alleviate the problems of post-harvest losses of fish, and promote the conservation of the surrounding mangrove resources used for firewood harvesting to support the fish industry.

Elements of sustainability of the project will be as followS:
1.Proceeds from the chokor ovens will be used to build more ovens even in other areas.
2.Proceeds will be accumulated and used to establish a revolving micro-credit scheme for the benefits of particularly the women population.
3.Improved capacity and knowledge of local community in freshwater conservation empowers the community to continue with project ideals.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Progress on project activities will be documented in monthly, quarterly and annual reports, and these will be shared with the UNDP-GEF, the local and council authorities. The bye-laws will be communicated in the local media, Radio Wanje. We will also engage the local media to disseminate project ideas and progress. Radio Wanje is an effective means of communicating with the entire Pujehun district. Our experience with Radio Wanje has proved that almost 90% of the adult population listens to Radio Wanje regularly.
Best practices and lessons learned from this project will be disseminated to other localities in the district, such as to the fishing communities along the River Moa and Sulima
