Community Mobilization for Sustainable Economic Development through Natural and Cultural Heritage Resources Use
The communities in the greater Lesoso area are rich with diverse unique natural and other heritage resources. Despite the abundance of such, there is visible degradation and negligence of such resources, which would improve the livelihoods of the communities. This largely emanates from the fact that there is lack of capacity and knowledge on the economic value of these resources. It is also a result of lack of a localized conservation and management strategies. Furthermore, there has not been any knowledge on the economic benefits of such resources hence the degradation and apparent negligence.
The mobilisation of communities will assist in establishing mechanisms for broader natural resources management. It will also ensure that there is wider engagement of experts across sectors, which will then inform the management and prioritized approaches.
Community mobilization will focus on eleven villages within the greater Lesoso area. It will involve a two day workshop inclusive of an excursion to three sites. The idea is to have a participatory platform with stakeholders, which will consequently inform the prioritization process of the conceptual framework.
