Sustainable management of fish aggregating devices
The «Aggregating Devices fish ? DCPs» project, promoted by the Cooperative fishermen located on the northern section of Santiago Island, seeks to respond to decreases on fishing catches due to overfishing, and also miss use of Aggregating Devices fish ? DCPs, some of which deployed over 2 years ago.
This project will enable fishermen to restore degraded DCPs, using recycled material, and local know how, with the intent to decrease costs. The project also aims to implement DCPs management use rules, as well as monitoring system. The monitoring system will be executed by biology students from the University of Cape Verde, and results will be used to draft the management plan. The project will benefit more than 1.000 fishermen and their families.
