Nkhorongo lies in the rural part of the city of Mzuzu where almost 98% of the population depends on subsistence agriculture. The area being closer to the urban community, is one of the main suppliers of charcoal, firewood and burnt brick, as a result there is serious deforestation and land degradation in the area.For decades these have been the major causes of soil infertility leading to poor agricultural production hence over 65% of the population lives under extreme poverty.
Currently the soils in the area are highly depleted for agriculture and each year farmers experience low production. Due to deforestation almost 90% of the steams have been widened and deepened.

Projects Objectives:
-To increase the sources of cash income for the low resource households
-To increase agricultural production per hectare
-To rehabilitate 30 ha of degraded forest areas in 5 villages

-Sources of cash income for the low resource household increased
