Empowerment of smallholder farmers through conservation farming and enterprise development
Matamangwe Producers and Marketing Farmers Cooperative is situated in Dowa District, Traditional Authorities of Msakambewa with 2,000 smallholder farmers.The project area is a rural setting with arable lands partitioned into individual farmer plots interspersed with living quarters of different households.The area has a perennial river flowing through that allows for dambo cultivation throughout the year.
The primary focus area is Land Degradation and sustainable Forest Management,to be addressed through training and farmers adoption of land use management,conservation farming system and community woodlot development.
The overall goal of the project is to create a sustainable environment by the farmers club members and empower them with value adding Vita-Goat technology to provide value added food for food security in their communities and improve quality of life.
