The project focused on enhancing of environmental awareness and education of Ukrainian schoolchildren. Its goal was to develop ?green? consciousness and promote eco-friendly daily behavior among the community through establishment of Youth Ecological Information Center in Radomyshl, Zhytomyr region. The project consisted of two main components. The first aimed to introduce energy-efficient technologies to Radomyshl gymnasium, where 490 schoolchildren study. Therefore, its building was repaired and the project facilitated installation of six energy-efficient windows. This helped reduce 4.3 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.
The second component focused on awareness raising activities. 50 schoolchildren, five teachers and ten parents installed three stands made from eco-friendly materials in Radomyshl gymnasium. Information materials on environmental issues will be constantly updated and disseminated through these stands. Also, the project developed ecological board game ?Green Manager? which gives children basic knowledge about environmental management, causes of climate change and ways of addressing this issue, and best practices of international organizations. The computer version of the game was also developed.
The project consisted of a range of workshops, training sessions, and presentations for schoolchildren, parents, teachers and representatives of the community. 300 people participated in workshops on establishment of youth ecological centers and their capacity in addressing environmental issues and also exchanged national and international experience in the area of education for sustainable development. The project team participated in All-Ukrainian Environmental Forum: ?Children for Environment: the Future We Want!? presenting ecological games, workshops and establishing new partnerships with other NGOs.
