The SGP project ?Introduction of Non-woven Shopping Bags? was implemented in Ashiqan and Arafan area of District 8 Kabul, where most of them are very poor. The Afghan government, especially the Ministry of Public health considered to Bann the Plastic Shopping Bags at the country level for keeping clean and protected environmental. The use of Plastic shopping Bags is environmentally harmful for the health of the population living in the country. On other side, a large number of afghanistan population are disabled or their family members are disabled due to various reason of domestic wars, dieses and other disabilities factors. Whereas, employment facilities has been one of the very main challenges for disables in the country especially for female. As AOAD is by itself an organization of a very talented, hardworking and social active Mr. Abdul Khaliq Zazai, who is also a disable. To address the female disables challengers in the society, AOAD with the support of SGP/ UNDP and NEPA implemented production of cotton and paper shopping bags and hand bags. The beneficiary of the project were 38 disables and poor women of the area, where the women were trained for the period of 6 months in the training center established by AOAD under MOA.
During the 6 months training period, the trainees were provided with monthly transports cost. In several monitoring visits by UNDP and Government Senior officials of the training center, the trainees have expressed their feeling with great happiness and proud that now they are enabled to be a self?s supporters and money earner. Meantime, AOAD staff encouraged the Shopkeepers or the users of the Plastic Bags to come up with alternatives such as cottons and papers bags and its environmental friendly. AOAD efforts take place when National Environmental Agency (NEPA) send an official letters to all Government agencies for the introduction of AOAD project and the uses of cotton and paper bags in their seminars, conferences, meetings and other gathering.
