Utilization of Natural Gas as an Alternative Energy For Needs and Industry Household and Water Eucalyptus
GOAL
Pegundungan village utilizes natural gas as alternative energy to contribute to reduction of land degradation and to improve livelihoods
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : The utilization of natural gas for home industry and household needs as well as for Eucalyptus Distillery
Indikator : 1. Ten wells of natural gas are utilized
2. The addition of PVC network to utilize natural gas to 100 households
3. The presence of four natural gas furnaces and 4 eucalyptus distillers
4. The production of essential oils of eucalyptus leaves
Kegiatan : 1. Identification of wells of high-pressure natural gas
Identification is aimed to find high- pressure gas wells, so it can effectively be used by the people. This is because in the village there are about 24 gas wells that have been identified by the Department of Energy and Water Management of Banjarnegara district and 10 wells have been identified by the people. Out of the 24 existing gas wells, 9 of them have been used by the people. Identification activity is actually a survey to determine which well that have highest gas pressure among the 15 wells. Ten out of the 15 wells with the highest pressure will be utilized. To identify whether the gas pressure is high or not, a hole as big as two inch pipe and 3 meter depth is made, then fire is ignited and connected to the stove to boil water in the same volume. After that, the time is recorded. The well that can boil the water at the shortest time, will be chosen as the well that will be utilized by the people.
The locations of these wells are on private lands who are members of the group. Six points in Simpar sub-village, 8 points in Pegundungan sub-village. Identification will be carried out by the group, accompanied by one Officer of the Office of Energy and Water Management of Banjarnegara District and 1 Officer of Local Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Banjarnegara, that will take 5 days in Pegundungan and Simpar sub-villages, Pegunungan village, Pejawaran Districts.
2. Drilling and installation of a natural gas pipeline to 100 households
The definition of drilling is digging a 5-7 meter deep well as sources of natural gas, as many as 10 points, in 1 m diameter. By using man power that is used to make a well, it will take 5 days and four to five people for the work of 1 well.
After the well was dug, then well installation is constructed, it consists of cast cement in 10 centimeters thick with an area of 1 m2, after that, a hole in size of 2 inch pipe is made and the pipe is installed into the well 3 meter in depth and exit the well 40 meters. Five days will be needed to construct this installation with 4 man power (Appendix Figure 1).
Into the main pipe. Starting from the pipes of the 10 point wells, they all will be merged into the main pipe that will go through a 500 m distance to the location of the people. Then to get into residential area, each main pipe will be branched in the ¾ inch pipe. Approximately 200 m of ¾ inch pipe will be needed for each main pipe. (Appendix Figure 2). Afterwards, self-sufficiently, the people will connect the pipe to their own houses.
Installation in houses is using a ¾ inch iron pipe, about 1 meter long, and 1 gas valve for each. Then incorporated into the stove. (Appendix Figure 3). There will be a hundred households utilize the natural gas, and 4 of them are for distillers.
3. Production of Furnace and procurement of eucalyptus distillers
There are 4 parts that are principle for distillers which are the water tubes, the raw materials tube, oil cooler tube and reservoir tube.
The furnace is the base for the water heating tube, holder of raw materials tube, holder of coolers tube and holder of separator. This furnace is made of cast cement in order to make the fire effective to boil the water. The furnace is made in 4 units, and each furnace contains 1 unit of refining machines. It will be constructed in people?s house and in a separate place provided by the Village. The investment cost for the means of production is very varied, ranging from the cost of under Rp 5.000.000, - up to hundreds of millions dollars depending on the desired level of production capacity, the level of sophistication and the system of distillers, the aesthetic value of distillers and the construction material of distillers. Although aspect of distillers is quite affecting the rendemen, raw material is the key. If the raw material is bad in quality, even the best distillers and techniques will result in small number of oil rendemen.
4. Trial of Distiller Production
Although it is the same in principle, operating and production techniques for various types of essential oils are different. The difference lies in the pretreatment of raw materials before being distilled, the distilling system itself, as well as the operating conditions (the pressure and velocity of the steam). Even the distillers? capacity could also affect the economic value of the business. For example, 50 kg of nutmeg oil distilling will give the same economic value as 100 kg of patchouli or as 1000 kg of clove distilling per unit of time. While the higher production capacity, the complexity is also getting higher.
The distilling process of Eucalyptus leaves is carried out through these following steps:
1. Wet eucalyptus leaves taken from 2 years old plant were prepared and cleansed of large branches.
2. The leaves are left in the sun to wither, they don?t have to be dried, wither is enough.
3. Water Tubes (Boiler) is filled with water and then heated and sealed, after that steam pipes that is connected to the tube of raw materials is opened.
4. Withered and clean eucalyptus leaves are put into the tube of raw materials
5. After 1 (one) hour the water being boiled, the water vapor will evaporate and enter the tube of raw materials through a pipe.
6. After two (2) hours of raw materials being exposed to vapor, water vapor mixed with essential oils will be produced and were collected into tubes of cooler or condenser. The oil will be in the bottom layer and water will be on top.
7. After the layer of oil is visible, then the isolation valve is opened.
8. In the first phase, the oil?s color will be white, then yellowish and finally red.
9. White oil is the number one quality, while yellow is the second and red is the third.
This activity is carried out for 5 days, 1 furnace needs one working force in 3 times shift, or 15 hours. Trial production will also be the launch of the first production of eucalyptus oil in Banjarnegara district. Therefore, it will be attended by the Regent of Banjarnegara and the officials as well as the surrounding communities. For the trial, 1,000 kg of wet Eucalyptus leaves as raw materials is needed. Each 100 kg of raw materials will produce 0,7 Kg of essential oils. The price of essential oil of Eucalyptus leaves is fluctuated between Rp. 125,000 to Rp. 350,000, - per kg, depending on the season of refining and the oil quality.
