Restoring Local Wisdom Heresoi : Towards Organic Farming Technology to Reduce Damage Sea ecosystems in North Wandoka
GOAL :
Restoring Heresoi local wisdom that has been the tradition of the people on waste management, as an effort to reduce the damage of coastal ecosystems in North Wandoka due to trash pollution.
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Increase awareness and skills of farmers about the importance of sustainable agriculture.
Indicators :
1. A clear schedule of monthly meetings of Kanasa group.
2. Two new groups in north Wandoka sub district that utilize organic farming technology.
3. Documents of agricultural development planning by utilizing organic farming technology.
Activities :
1. Group meetings on 2 times per month basis.
2. Dissemination on the impact and benefits of organic farming technology to the environment, that will be carried out twice for Kanasa group (field study), participated by farmers in north Wandoka sub-district.
3. Two FGDs participated by two representatives from agricultural service, 2 village officials, 2 representatives from environmental bodies and 10 community members from north Wandoka sub-district.
Objective 2 : Increase farmers' income by application of organic farming technology through heresoi tradition.
Indicators :
1. Kanasa group is trained in vegetable nursery.
2. One unit of plants irrigation.
3. Organic farming area of 50 mx 50 m (to plan beans, eggplant, luffa/Patola and soybean).
4. Organic farming area of 50 mx 50 m to plant onion.
Activities :
1. A training to select superior seeds of onion and vegetables by Kanasa group.
2. Pipe connection from the PDAM (local Government Owned Water Utility) to the plantation site.
3. Seeding of 50 kg beans, 50 kg eggplant, 50 kg patola and 100 liters of soybean for Kanasa groups and 20 farmers in north Wandoka.
4. Seeding of 100 liters of onion.
Objective 3 : Increase farmers' income and production through the management of waste bank with heresoi tradition.
Indicators :
1. A quarter hectare of land where organic and inorganic waste are separated.
2. Four members of Kanasa group are trained to be well- skilled workers of inorganic waste management.
3. A group of compost supplier in Wangi-wangi island.
Activities :
1. Provision of a quarter hectare of land as a place to separate organic and inorganic waste.
2. Training for 4 people to manage plastic waste into a flowerpot.
3. Composting by 4 members of Kanasa group.
Objective 4 : Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting.
Indicators :
1. Ten field visits by monitoring team that is appointed by MEAKA.
2. Field visit document of the monitoring team as visit report.
3. A document of evaluation report on group?s activities.
4. A report document of the activities, accompanied by a video of every field?s activities
Activities :
1. Ten field visits in monitoring field activities.
2. Preparation of a document as result of field visits.
3. Preparation of a document as the evaluation report of group's activities.
4. Preparation of a document of activities report which accompanied by tape (video) of every field?s activities .
EXPECTED OUTPUT :
1. The group is able to manage the waste bank as business? alternative
2. Community awareness to use environmentally friendly agricultural technology
3. Provide compost supply for 4 groups and for Wangi-wangi island in general facilitated by Meaka
4. Able to increase environmentally friendly agricultural production
5. Increase of creative thinking and actions in relation to the improvement of public welfare
6. Positioning of agriculture as a promising employment
7. Reduce of the amount of exploitative pressure on marine resources due to the lacking of alternative employment
8. Coastal ecosystems that have started to disappear are saved
9. Indigenous wisdoms of the community that have started to fade are restored
10.Clean and healthy environment as rubbish-free area, and
11.Develop an entrepreneurial spirit and its application by empowering communities through the opening of new jobs.
Participants and/or Project Beneficiaries :
Direct : 5 families (27 people as members of the group) and 12 people from Meaka, thus 39 persons in total.
Indirect : 1,254 people of north Wandoka sub-district comprising of 580 men and 676 women.
