GOAL
Restoring the Balance of Coastal Ecosystems in South Mola in the Year 2015 Based on Local Potentials.

OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Creating a Productive Economy Based on Local Potentials For Bajo Women.
Indicators :
1. Home industry training of 15 female sand miners
2. Home industry training of 15 female rock miners
3. Reduced activity of 15 female sand miners
4. Reduced activity of 15 female rock miners
Activities :
1. Capacity Building Training on the Productive Economic of Bajo Women:
This activity is one of the steps taken to cultivate the will and interest of the people especially Bajo women who work as sand and rock miners, so that they have the knowledge, skills and expertise in managing their local resources, without damaging the environment.
This training will be made in 3 packages during the program, namely:
a. Fish processing training:
Training on producing dried fish (dendeng), fish floss, fish crackers and processing fish waste into animal feed, fish feed and plant fertilizer
b. Training on seaweed processing
Training on the production of seaweed stick snack
c. Artistic skill training
This training will involve 15 Bajo women assisted by Sintesa Wakatobi who work as sea sand miners and another 15 people who work as rock miners. The training was conducted in South Mola Village, South Wangi-Wangi District, Wakatobi Regency. This training is expected to provide an alternative in the livelihood of Bajo women who work as sand and rock miners. Thus, they will leave their work as sand and rock miners. This training will be conducted two 2 times during the program, which is in the third week of May and the 2nd week of October 2013.
2. Promotion dan marketing:
a. Competition of home industry products
This activity is a competition of home industry products that are made by the 30 people who participate in the community during the Productive Economic Capacity Building Training of 15 female sand miners and 15 female rock miners in South Mola village. This activity is expected to stimulate the spirit and interests of home industry actors in South Mola to produce their best works, as well as to be a promotional media for home industry products of Bajo women who work as sand and rock miners in South Mola. This activity will be carried out 2 times during the program which is in the fourth week-of May and the third week-of October 3, 2013. The team of jury in the competition is the head of Family Welfare Association (PKK), Wakatobi Regency Head of Tourism Department and Head of Industry, Commerce and Cooperative Department.
b. Exhibition of the Home Industry Products made by Bajo Mola women
Fashion show event of the industry products by the women of Bajo South Mola. This activity is carried out to introduce and display home industry products of women in Bajo South Mola to the general public and the Government of Wakatobi. This activity is also a promotional event for the products of their work, both in culinary art and artistic craft. This activity will be carried out in South Mola Village twice during the program that takes place in the second week of June and November 2013. The total number of people who participate are 30 people who are female home industry actors from Bajo South Mola consisting of 15 female artisans and 15 female fish processors.
c. Marketing partnerships
The marketing of Bajo women?s group craft products will be done through flyers that are distributed to places of tourism business, such as hotels, resorts, restaurants, etc., and also by working directly with the government of Wakatobi Regency, either by asking for an opportunity for their crafts to be included in exhibitions nationally and internationally or by listing the information about their products in the website of Wakatobi Local Government
Direct marketing partnership is not only done in the scope of the Wakatobi Regency, but also through direct visit to some areas that are the entry points to Wakatobi such as Bau-Bau, Kendari and Makassar. Therefore the support from GEF is needed, so that this activity will be done sustainably. The marketing partnership is done by sending a staff of Sintesa as a facilitator in the program who will look for the market in targeted areas. This marketing partnership is planned to be done throughout the time starting from the first week of June until the end of the program.
3. Study Visit
Study visit is the visit to other areas by Bajo South Mola home industry groups into other areas, which aims to improve the knowledge, experience as well as to motivate the Bajo women?s home industry groups to improve their production.
The activity is done twice during the program in cooperation with Bank Indonesia Kendari and if possible also in cooperation with Wakatobi Local Government or direct support from GEF through this program. The study visit involves one representative from each home industry group, namely one artisan, one weaver and one fish processor and accompanied by one facilitator from Sintesa in the program.
The targets of study visit activities to be implemented by home industry groups are :
a. Study visit to Champernik Artisans Group in Pangandaran, which is planned to be conducted for 3 days on the second week of September 2013.
b. Study visit to a home industry group facilitated by Lawe in Jogjakarta to study the development of product, marketing and group organization. This activity is to be done in the month of April 2013.
4. Financial training
This training is the capacity building training of home industry group in financial and accounting management. This training can provide knowledge to Bajo South Mola home industry groups on how to manage their group?s finances as well as in preparing a financial statements in accordance to accounting standards. This training will be conducted one time during the program which took place in June, 2013, for 3 days. The particpants will be 6 people from home industry group, two people from artisans group, 2 men and 2 people from weavers group and two people from fish processors group. This training will be conducted in South Mola Village with the support from Bank Indonesia Kendari as the financial coach.

Objective 2 : Improving the Knowledge of Bajo Women on Waste Management.
Indicators :
1. Two trainings on organic and inorganic waste management.
2. There are 15 female sand miners and 15 rock miners who participate in the organic and inorganic waste recycling training.
3. There are two environmental campaigns.
4. There are 20 Bajo children who join the school of nature.
5. There are written regulations in the village on waste management.
6. There are 30 Bajo women who are able to recycle organic and inorganic waste.
Activities :
1. Recycling activity of organic and inorganic waste
This activity is one of the activities of organic and inorganic waste management into a more useful item, which can even bring economic value to the people.
This activity is conducted to train people?s awareness in keeping their environment, so as to reduce the explosion of organic and inorganic waste generation in Bajo South Mola area because it can help save the use of raw materials. Thus, it will reduce energy consumption, pollution and environmental damage.
Since this activity is expected to be done continuously by the people even after the program, there are three approaches that will be used in this recycling activity as follow:
a. Reduce:
Done through environmental awareness campaign, especially to reduce the consumption of goods or materials that create waste. This campaign will be conducted in 4 hamlets in South Mola (Mekar 1 hamlet, Mekar 3 hamlet, Bahari hamlet and Nelayan hamlet). The target group in this activity is 30 South Mola people from each hamlet. This campaign will be conducted by 12 representatives of Bajo Mola women's groups people consisting of 3 people from Bantesa group, 3 people from Sikarimannang home industry group, 3 people from Bajo Marannu fish processing group and 3 people from Bajo Bangkit baking industry in South Mola and they will be accompanied by 2 facilitators from Sintesa and 1 facilitator of TNC-WWF.
b. Reuse
Is done in two ways :
1) Environmental awareness campaigns conducted by a community of 12 Bajo women's groups in the 4 hamlets in South Mola, with 2 facilitators from Sintesa and 1 person from the TNC-WWF. This activity is planned to be done on the 2nd and 3rd of July 2013.
2) Cleaning action every Saturday and Sunday which is scheduled to commence at the 5th week of July until the end of this program, and will continue to be done even after the program has ended. Cleaning action is done by collecting rubbish that can still be used for recycling into reusable items. This activity involves all citizens of South Mola, and will be supported directly by the government of South Mola Village.
c. Recycle
The recycling activity is carried out by training thirty Bajo women from South Mola ie 15 female sand miners and 15 female rock miners to turn organic waste into compost and inorganic waste into items that are more useful and can bring economic value. This activity is carried out on the fifth week of July 2013 and it is hoped to continue after the end of the program.
2. Competition of clean environment
This is a competition to assses the clean level of environment of the hamlets in South Molla Village. Through this activity it is expected that the environmental cleanliness of South Mola will be constantly maintained. This activity will be carried out once in every 3 months during the ongoing program, which are the 4th week of August 2013, the 3rd week of November 2013 and the 2nd week of February, 2014, and to be continuously done every month after the program ends. The team of jury in this competition is the PKK motivators team of South Wangi-Wangi District, the Department of Environment, Sanitation Department and Health Department
3. School of nature
This school of nature activity is one of the non-formal education activities done in nature in Bajo village South Mola. It is dedicated for children who drop out of school or who are still in school. This activity is done as one of the milestones in creating the environmentally-aware future generations. This activity will be facilitated by facilitators from Sintesa Wakatobi and if possible GEF can also be involved directly as the mentor in the school of nature. This activity will involve 20 Bajo children in South Mola and will be done every month during the program. This activity is carried out by some of the concepts of activities, namely:
a. Study ;
Through science books, screenings of environmental films, and waste management practices and other practices that are beneficial.
b. Play (outbond) ; as a means of forming the leadership skill
This activity will begin by disseminating this in the village by involving several community leaders and women's groups. The activity is scheduled to be done at 2nd week in November 2013. And after that there will be a routine school of nature which will be done once a week starting at beginning of December 2013 to March 2014, and effort will be made so that this activity continues after the program ends. The process of collecting the materials and equipment that support the school of startss since the beginning of May 2013 and will continue to be carried out during the program, and is expected to continue after. Therefore ccooperation with the GEF is expected to continue after the program ends.
4. Workshop of village regulations on waste management
This workshop is the preparation of village regulations on waste management. This workshop is expected to produce written regulations concerning a ban on littering, to determine the scheduling of community work in cleaning up the entire area, and the rules regarding waste management in South Mola Village. This workshop will take place one time in the program, which is in the fourth week of August 2013 with participants from South Mola Village government, including heads of village, hamlet heads in 4 South Mola hamlets, and also 4 representatives of each Bajo South Mola women?s group, consisting of 1 representative from Bantesa group, 1 representative from Sikarimannang group, 1 person from the Bajo Marannu group and 1 person from Bajo Bangkit group. The activity will be facilitated by facilitators from Sintesa Wakatobi.
5. Study visit to Waste Bank Program
This activity is a study visit to waste bank to be replicated in South Mola Village. This activity is done one time in the program, which is is in the fourth week of February 2014 for 3 days. This study visit will be carried out by 2 delegates from Bajo Mola women?s groups and will be accompanied by 1 facilitator from Sintesa Wakatobi. The study visit is planned to be done in one of the waste banks assisted by Wisnu Foundation in Bali or in one of the waste bank communities facilitated by GEF (according to GEF recommendations).
Thus cooperation with the GEF is expected to continue after the program ends.

Objective 3 : Evaluate the development of program that is being implemented and also to create development opportunities for next program.
Indicators :
1. An evaluation of the ongoing program.
2. Periodical monitoring report.
3. Recommendations for future program development.
Activities :
The activities are to monitor and evaluate the development of the ongoing program. Monitoring and evaluation of the program will be done every month, conducted by the coordinator of Wakatobi Bina Potensi Desa Foundation (Sintesa) once in every three months by program consultant recommended through this program. The result of monitoring and evaluation will be reported to the GEF by the program consultant.
The whole activities are a series of activities which are mostly done on a regular basis by the Wakatobi Sintesa at its facilitated communities. Therefore the support of GEF-SGP Indonesia is expected to continue after the end of this planned program.

EXPECTED OUTPUT
1. A change of attitude in Bajo people towards the use of coastal resources (sand and rock mining) as a source of livelihood
2. Well-balanced coastal environment
3. Clean environment
4. Written village regulations on waste management
5. The presence of Bajo Handicraft Store
6. The presence of Waste Bank Program
7. The formation of women community organization of Bajo Mola, which is a combination of several Bajo women?s groups.

Participants and/or Project Beneficiaries :
Direct : Yayasan Bina Potensi Desa (Sintesa) Wakatobi branch, 15 people of Sikarimannang group, and 30 bajo women (15 sand miners and 15 rock miners), 20 bajo children of South Mola, with the composition of men and women involved in this program is 80: 20.
Indirect : People of Bajo Mola Raya, with the ratio between men and women is 60: 40.
