Sustainable management of the environment in protected areas and in the Cape Verde generally involves the strong community participation through civil society organizations. The GEF SGP noted that there is an immediate need to strengthen the capacities of non-governmental actors, in order to promote coordinated responses to environmental challenges and national priorities, as well as the processes of implementation, monitoring and evaluation of initiatives and projects. Thus, the present project aims to support non-governmental organizations and local community associations Santiago, Fogo, Santo Antao, S. Nicholas, in order to empower them to develop and manage projects which will contribute and address priority environmental challenges.

The strengthening of capacities will be accomplished through four workshops in specific areas outlined in the framework of GEF SGP, implemented by Atelier Mar, its partners and training specialists.

The products listed in the ToR will be achieved in particular by promoting better understanding of the national program, with the strengthening of capacities of CSOs in the preparation of proposals, with the release of new approaches and best practices, and preparation of project proposals the workshops, responding to local needs and the areas of the GEF.
