Rural Women Solar Electrification Project in Macuata and Cakaudrove
The main objective is to introduce solar energy to103 households in 3 villages in the Macuata Province and 1 village in the Cakaudrove Province through the enhancement of technical skills of semi literate women. In addition, this will also be done by:
i) Implementing the ?barefoot? approach of demystifying and decentralizing solar technology down to Vuniqalutu and Lutukina Villages in Dreketi District, Nabouono Village in Udu District and Yasawa Village in Tawake District, Cakaudrove
ii) Empowering established Solar Village Committees to implement the entire solar lighting project through the Women Barefoot Solar Engineers (BSEs) in their villages.
iii) Training other semi-literate rural women to fabricate, install and maintain the solar lighting systems in their villages and other livelihoods activities that they learnt in India
iv) Organizing the community to sustain the project through collecting monthly users? contribution and barefoot solar engineers (BSEs) wages
v) Putting the fabrication, installation, repair and maintenance of solar technology in the management, supervision, control and ownership of rural communities
