Jozini Cycad Conservation Project
Activity 1 - Comprehensive cycad survey to determine age class, distribution, reproductive nature and health of existing cycad populations
Activity 2 - Remove or contain any immediate external threats to wild populations
Activity 3 - Cycads that are vulnerable to illegal harvesting will be micro chipped
Activity 4 ? GIS analysis using data captured in the survey to inform the cycad management plan.
Activity 5 - Consult with experts, the general public and conservation authorities to acquire input for the area-specific management plan.
Activity 6 - Acquire necessary approvals for the management plan, including permission for the artificial propagation and re-population of cycads in the wild
Activity 7 - Establish cycad nurseries
Activity 8 - Community liaison to facilitate communication with community for the duration of the project.
Activity 9 - Investigate economic opportunities directly or indirectly associated with the propagation of cycads.
Activity 10 - Artificially propagated cycads are planted in the wild
Activity 11 - Records are kept on numbers and distribution of cycads that have been re-introduced into tActivity 12 ? Identify other initiatives to build on the cycad project and provide additional socio-economic benefits for the local communityhe wild.
