Energy Efficiency through Provinces
Energy Efficiency through Provinces
Turkey's energy demand has increased steadily with an average rate of 4% per year at last 20 years. In 2011 primary energy consumption was 114 million toes; with this figure Turkey has become one of the world's largest energy consumers in 25 countries. Share of energy sector (production/ consumption / removal / transmission / conversion, etc.) in greenhouse gas emissions in CO2 equivalents in 2010 was 71%. The total greenhouse gas emissions in Turkey in 1990 -2010 in parallel with the course of the increase in energy consumption, increased with a rate of 115%. With the rapid economic growth, industrialization and population growth caused in increase energy needs of the country due to depending on fossil fuels, the emission of the country is inevitably rising. Need to meet the increasing demand for energy consumption, energy intensity reduction and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the most important and cost-effective measures and initiative is energy efficiency for Turkey.

In Turkey, although the Energy Efficiency Act came into force in 2007 and the regulations and it?s around 40 communiqués issued pursuant to such regulations, still take steps to develop more effective strategies are needed on the energy efficiency. To ensure reduction in energy intensity, public awareness should be a priority on the legislation in particular target groups such as, professional organizations and individuals.

In addition to energy efficiency legislation, in 2012 Energy Efficiency Strategy came into force which will affects everyone and almost all the organizations related to the subjects. Also in our country, information level is very low and misinformation is very common on EE legislation.

With this project it is aimed that, with the workshops organized in six cities of Turkey and networking activities to be organized on energy efficiency legislation and strategy with the supports of local actors such as chambers of industry and trade, special provincial administrations, municipalities and local organizations, Chamber of Engineers it is intended to increase awareness at the project's target groups, and create local Energy Efficiency Platform.

Within the framework of this project, as a result of increased awareness of people and institutions on developments in legislation and Province based energy efficiency activity plan development study energy efficiency activities at six provinces at the main cities of Anatolia will be stimulated therefore it is expected to contribute energy efficiency increase reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in Turkey.
