Demonstration of Productive Use of Solar energy through Solar Powered Water Borehole
Demonstration of Productive Use of Solar energy through Solar Powered Water Borehole
Problem statement:

Use of solar for productive use is not common in Tanzania. This had lead to a false belief that usage of solar power is limited to lighting only. Therefore, through St. Gemma sisters of Chang?ombe at Segera in Tanga, the proposed project will demonstrate on how solar energy could be used to pump water from a borehole.

About the proponent:

The congregation of St. Gemma Galgani Sisters is a religious institution of Tanzania nuns. It was established in 1947. It was registered as NGO in 2006. It is settled at Chang?ombe village, at Segera Ward in Tanga. Its main objective is evangelization. The congregation also focuses on socio-economic development activities particularly poverty reduction and elimination of diseases and ignorance.

Project Objective:

Demonstration of how solar energy could be used for water pumping from a borehold.

Secondary Objective:

? To enhance access to clean water for villagers of Chang?ombe ward
? To reduce incidences of water-borne diseases through provision of clean water
? To reduce workload on the part of women who currently head load water from unsafe sources

Implementation strategy:

1. Ground water survey for locating suitable site drilling
2. Establishment of drawing points
3. Open days for demonstrative effects
