Integrating Gender Approach in management of Community-Based Environmental Programme Sustainable
GOAL
encourage equal involvement of women and men in the community-based environmental management to achieve a just and sustainable life.
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Increasing the capacity of community movers and other stakeholders about the integration of gender perspectives in community-based environmental management.
Indicators : 1. Good post test results from workshop participants (community movers, rural community leaders, village officials and related agencies).
2. Guidelines for integrating gender approach in community-based environmental management.
Activities : 1. Workshop on gender integration in community-based environmental management program
This activity is in three program sites. It is a forum where representatives of the groups involved in the program will share information and learn from each other about, issues, challenges, obstacles and opportunities they face in their respective regions. The workshop will be conducted in February 2013 by involving the person in charge and coordinator of the program, and facilitated by two facilitators who understand environmental and gender issues properly. This workshop is expected to be attended by members of the community, village officials, related agencies, taking into account on gender balance.
Objective 2 : Practicing the integration of gender in the program in each community through target groups organizing.
Indicators : 1. The presence of gender-disaggregated data on the composition of the 150 direct beneficiaries.
2. The presence of three action plans of programs that encourage equal involvement of men and women, formulated by the respective communities.
3. The presence of at least three activities that answer the specific needs of women and men in community-based environmental management at each program location.
Activities : 1. Participatory assessment of the condition of village / participatory rapid appraisal (PRA).
This activity is done to make the mapping of village conditions by providing equal participation opportunities for men and women. PRA is important to capture the condition of areas from the perspective of the community by taking into consideration the special needs of men and women in order to develop appropriate strategies and encourage acceptance of the optimal benefit from the programs. PRA will be conducted in April 2013, after the introduction of gender training conducted.
2. Facilitating group activities.
Facilitation will be conducted throughout the program, starting from February to December 2013 (11 months). Facilitation will be done by community movers with the assistance of the consultant and IKA. It aims to ensure the program can be implemented well. If it is found there is a problem or an issue, then the group can immediately discuss measures to overcome them.
Objective 3 : Promoting the increase of public understanding on gender perspectives in community-based environmental management through the lesson learned from the program in three locations.
Indicators : 1. Documentation of program lesson learned made directly by program beneficiaries
2. The distribution of lesson learned documentation to the public in printed or electronic documents that can be accessed by the public.
Activities : 1. Documenting the lesson learned of the program through daily journal.
Recording activity on how the program runs by both men and women (representatives are appointed from community members) kept in a simple journal. This recording will commence from April to December 2013, thus, changes that occur in individuals and groups can be traced.
2. The distribution of lesson learned in the form of printed and electronic documents
The distribution is to be uploaded via institution?s communication media.
This material will be produced by the end of the program, in January 2014 and subsequently launched in February 2014 as program contribution to the development of science in Indonesia. The books will be compilation of best learning, will be written directly by the people, edited by the community movers with the assistance of a team of IKA before being disseminated.
Objective 4 : Monitoring the development of the program to maximize performance.
Indicator : Information on program development
Activities : 1. Site visits at the end of the program to discuss the evaluation with the community.
2. Indirect program assistance and management through phone, email, etc. during the course of the program.
EXPECTED OUTPUT
1. Community movers and stakeholders have a good understanding of gender.
2. Men and women have equal access to participate in community-based, sustainable environmental management program.
3. Mapping of the areas in a participatory manner by considering the specific needs of men and women.
4. Strategic programs that integrate gender approaches in each community.
5. Beneficiaries can directly document their lesson learned both as a growing person and as a member of growing community.
6. Joint lesson learned that can be disseminated to the public.
