Sustainable Agriculture System and Community-based Forest Conservation Development in Lompobattang Protected Forest Area to Support Economical Growth and Poverty Reduction
GOAL
Planning the improvement of community welfare and simultaneously increasing software and hardware availability for community live nearby Lompobattang protected forest by benefiting their agriculture potential with regards to the conservation principles
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : PLANNING ASPECT: to gather data and mobilize supports needed for strengthening the proposal development
Indicators :
1. Existing database on community needs from community located nearby the Lompobattang protected forest regarding the sustainable agriculture system development and community-based forest conservation in the area.
2. Existing political and social supports from the government and farmers towards the program
Activities :
1. Need Assessment.
Gathering data and community?s input regarding the plan to implement sustainable agriculture system development and community-based forest conservation in Lompobattang protected forest in order to support the economical growth and poverty reduction. It includes compiling data and listing existing program in the farmers group in Cikoro. The activities will be implemented during 2nd week of December 2012 to 1st week of January 2013.
2. Coordination with local government.
Conducting formal and informal meeting with the local government so that they can understand the flow of the program in their area, give response, and can actively participated in the program. The activities will be implemented on every 4th week of December 2012 to April 2013.
Objective 2 : COMMUNITY ORGANIZING ASPECT: to ensure community participation and strengthen the capacity of the community organization involved in the group.
Indicators :
1. The recommendation and input from communities in regards with the program in Lompobattang protected forest are available. It includes joint planning and agreement upon the ideas starting from initial activities up to the phasing out process to be proposed to GEF SGP. This will be gathered through participatory process.
2. Existing working agenda from each groups to be discussed together for follow up and finding the solvency
3. Functioning at least 10 farmer groups in villages Cikoro as the channeling aspirations in supporting program planning and development of sustainable farming systems of community-based forest conservation in protected forest areas Lompobattang to support economic growth and poverty reduction
Activities : 1. Community Planning
Conducting ?Tudang Sipulung? workshop with the farmers group as to design joint planning in developing the sustainable agriculture system development and community-based forest conservation in Lompobattang protected forest. This will be conducted on 2nd week of January 2013
2. Regular Discussion
Conducting regular discussion to respond any emerging issues. This meeting will accommodate the discussion for any burning issues and challenges that need to be solved as a group. The meeting will be conduction every 3rd week of January 2012 to April 2013.
3. Facilitation
Facilitating the targeted farmer group in Cikoro in order to strengthen their bargaining position to external elements, such as environment. The event will start from 2nd week of December to 4th week of April 2013.
Objective 3 : ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECT: to produce the conservation strategy and local community development in developing sustainable agriculture system development and community-based forest conservation in Lompobattang protected forest based on the potency-based data in Cikoro
Indicators :
1. Existing secondary and primary data on the potency of social, economy, ecology, demography, and geography in Cikoro as a reference in developing the program.
2. Existing plan for conservation strategy and local community development in developing sustainable agriculture system development and community-based forest conservation in Lompobattang protected forest
Activities :
1. Creating the potency-based data
Conducting survey by interviewing targeted groups to gather information regarding their revenue, assets, and natural resources utilization. This survey will be conducted on 1st to 4th week of January 2013.
2. Intensive Study
Conducting small groups discussion to gather initial data to be followed up furthermore, including brief information regarding the Lompobattang protected forest area. The discussion will be done on every 2nd week of January 2013-March 2013.
Objective 4 : MONITORING, EVALUATION, AND REPORTING ASPECT: to monitor and evaluate the program at every phase of the activities
Indicators : 1.Existing activities to overview the program from both technical and content perspectives.
2.Reports and other important documents to record the program, including the activities, achievements, and challenges face during the implementation of the program. This will be published as well.
3.General and particular recommendation to improve the implementation of the program
Activities :
1. Direct observation (field visit)
Conducting field visit to the relevant stakeholders by the project coordinator to share the objectives of the program so that each stakeholders can understand their role and responsibility in addition to evaluate the activities that they implement. This will be done every 3rd week of December 2012 to April 2013.
2. Compiling field visit and recommendation report
Creating monthly monitoring reports and final report by the project coordinator. This will be done every 4th week of January 2013 to April 2013.
3. Program Documentation
Recording the implementation of the program through several means, including photo and video, so that each phase of the activities will be well documented. This will be done accordingly to every event.
EXPECTED OUTPUT
1 Database on community needs and potency-based map in Cikoro to underlie the development of the program
2 Community-based and participatory plan for conservation strategy and local community development in developing sustainable agriculture system development and community-based forest conservation in Lompobattang protected forest is available. This planning will be proposed to GEF SGP Indonesia for full grant scheme.
3 Complete Monitoring and Evaluation system and the relevant documents such as photographs, notes of meeting, attendance list as means of verifications
