Ghost Net Busters
The Ghost Net Hunters Project came out as a necessity of effective and sustainable conservation and control activities at 6 Marine Protected Areas (Gökova Bay / Turkey). Ghost nets at the habitats of the fish populations affects the ecosystem recovery in a negative way. Therefore the Project aims to raise awareness about ghost nets, educate the local fishing communities about the ghost net issue, strengthening the ecosystem and generating a communication network between fishermen and other local departments.
There will be field works which fisherman actively have role to determine the locations of the nets and take them out of the marine environment. Fisheries community is the main stakeholder of this project.
Except the local fisheries communities, local governmental departments, conservation & control departments and local NGO?s will be the participants of the meetings as stakeholders of the project.
