Results of activities:
1.Increased technical capacity of targeted population on micro-hydro technology witnessed by sharing thoughts & idea on applying what were learnt in project location and comparatively more active participation in activities of the enterprise
2. Completion of power house construction and penstock laying down with a primary success in trial run to generate electricity
3. Completion of facilities for biodiversity conservation (fresh water species and landraces)
4. Produced dissemination, especially signboards , to attract tourists and other type of population to visit and share experience about the micro-hydro plant and the facility of the project

Project Visibility and Communication by other organizations/individuals:
On 18 December 2012,Mr. Isaac Sali, Chairperson of Ranong Provincial Administrative Organization and Mr. Jarin Udompholchaicharoen, the District Clerk vivited the project to share experience on conservation of watershed areas.

Emerging problems and issues:
Heavy rain during launching activities and late delivery of construction materials causing delay in resources inventorying and penstock laying down . There was not much that the project could do to rectify the situation except some advice which the project would have done, i.e. the project should have thoroughly surveyed local markets for availability of some construction material first before launching activities and should have taken into consideration weather condition

Project experience and lessons learnt :
As the group had not process any skill or experience in renewable energy, it experienced several aspects of issues, both institutionally and technically. Therefore, it was recommended that before launching any type of renewable energy, thorough study and investigation be carried out. Each type of renewable energy had both weak and strong point to compare. As to the project, there was much of unexpected expense.

Project expense:
The project reported the expense of THB: 326,870 out of the first disbursement of THB: 319,863.52
II. Project Site Visit (November 13, 2013):
Findings and Observation:
Baan (village) Tone Kloy, in Suksamran District, the targeted location, is an agricultural village-pararubber mostly- flanked by two protected areas, i.e. Sri Nakha Non-hunting Zone and Sri Phangnga National Park. Therefore, the surrounding of the village still appears comparatively intact in term of nature and wildlife, thus appealing to eco-tourists.

At a premises in Baan Tone Kloy that community members permit to be used for launching project activities, the visiting team witnessed progress of several activities. These included the functioning micro-hydro to generate electricity, and two nurseries for conservation and planning sustainable use of biological diversity in forest - fresh water ecosystems.

The 5-kW micro-hydro plant was said to be in operation for a few months supplying electricity to one community meeting place, and three nurseries. The plant, however, was not functioning at its full capacity because of a technical error of project leaders in sizing a portion of the penstock that carried water from head water to the turbo-generator. To address the issue, project leaders had consulted with Ranong Provincial Energy Office, who recommended that portion of the penstock, about 200 m-long, be enlarged from 2 inches to 3 inches.

After giving energy to drive the turbo-generator, the running water was being used in nursery process of native fish and landrace. A fish, called Pla Pluang (Neolissochilus stracheyi or Mahseer barb ), was endemic to fresh water ecosystems where swift running river waters were common. In a process of nursery, there was certainly a time where sufficient oxygen demand had to be ensured, and this was accomplished by switching on an oxygen-replenishing machine driven by the generated electricity. The species currently was one with economic value.

The visiting team agreed that the project had been in progress satisfactorily, despite the technical error of project leaders, who assured the team that they had enough capacity and budget to rectify the situation. It was estimated that the electricity generated after rectification would serve more families to contribute to stabilizing the rate of CO2 emission from energy sector.

Results and indicators:

Project Communication:
In addition to the previous communication, there were staff members from 5 organizations paying visit to share experience with the project.

Problems and Issues:
The project referred to two issues. First, unusually long raining period delay some component of proposed activities. Second, targeted population did not possess sufficient technical skill in launching the activities. For any project of similar context, thorough survey of the area and availability of resources had to be carried out as a preparation of implementation plan. During implementation, experiment and records on the micro-hydro plant function must be done periodically to improve its performance.

Experience , Lessons Learnt :
The project learnt a lot about sectorial participation in development work. At the very beginning of the project, local/provincial government agencies would ask first about the source of fund. After explanation about GEF SGP, the project received more cooperation from both governments and communities than before. As to the micro-hydro technology, careful study had to be carried out by stakeholders before detailed planning and implementing in the field.

Plans and Activities for Sustainability:
After consultation with the district office, one of major stakeholders, the CEO of the district suggested that a further study be conducted to assess the capacity of water flow rate for an additional micro-hydro unit which would be able to sell electricity back to grid. In addition, the district clerk proposed that a municipality act be drafted and promulgated to control fishery in project location. This was well noted by the CEO with promised immediate actions.
The senior district clerk proposed to the group that it should take a role as a focal point in watching over the watershed. The group should report any illegal action in the watershed directly to the clerk.
