Protecting Biodiversity & Promoting Clean Energy for Conservation
<Implementing NGO/CBO: Tone Kloy Community Entreprise (TKCE): Established as a registered group in 2008 at Baan (village) Tone Kloy, Ranong Province, aiming to enhance capacity of community regarding environment conservation. Several years before, the group focused on eco-tourism but was not received adequate attention. Just after the Tsunami in 2004, there had been a lot of tourist in Baan Tone Kloy, prompting environment degradation trend , thus reversing action of the group.
Location of project:A watershed area of Khlong Khamphuan, flanked by a mountain range in Ranong?s Suksamran District. One of a beautiful scenery in the south, there is a water fall with enough capacity to generate electricity. The location is grid-connected and readily supplied with all kind of fossil-fuels.
Target Population: 57 families in target location the majority of which earn living by agricultural practice, and depends upon grid electricity and fossil fuels in daily activities. All 57 families are project direct participants. The per capita income is THB:20,000.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching capacity building through training & study tour
2. Launching demonstration of activities: Micro-hydro plant and species propagation
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation / knowledge management
Anticipated Results and Indicators:
1.Increased capacity and awareness of target population witnessed by ability to put into articulate & put into practice what being learnt RE: Renewable Energy and ecosystem conservation
2. Compiled resources inventory for sustainable use planning
3. Five landraces species being conserved and under sustainable use
4. Increased 30,000 water species in project location
5. Reduction/avoidance of CO2 emission from one 5-kW micro hydro plant by about 7.76 tons/year
