Developing Solar Energy for Indigenous Youth Education
Implementing NGO/CBO:Association for Conserving and Developing the Petchabun Range (ACDEP): Established in 2010 as a registered local NGO by 3 community networks aiming to reverse degradation trend of natural resources and the environment in the Petchabun Range. ACDEP is mandated to advocate conservation of natural resources and environment, promotion of renewable energy, education and addressing poverty issues of less privilege community.
Location of project:Two villages situated in the valley of the Petchabun Range, at over 1,000 meters above sea level, a watershed of Mekong River. The villages are rather remote and not connected to grid.
Target Population: 243 families of two traditional groups, Lawa and Thin, in the location the majority of which depends upon agricultural practice (paddy, and cabbage) and provisions of the mountain-forest ecosystems . All 243 families are project direct participants. The per capita income is THB: 25,000.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching capacity building through training /study tours
2. Launching demonstration of activities: Solar Energy, water work and carbon sink
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation / knowledge management
Anticipated Results and Indicators:
1. Increased capacity and awareness of
- 80 members on causes & effect of climate change
- 25 members on solar energy technology with 10 as resources persons / system maintenance staff
2. Avoidance of CO2 emission as follows:
- 7,736.32 kg/year from 77 solar homes
-2,317.89 kg/year from solar street lighting
-1,632 kg/year from water work systems
3. Maintained area of 240-ha green carbon absorbing 19,488 kg/year CO2
4. Established one community renewable energy fund set aside for system maintenance
