Micro Hydro-power for Baan Tha Ta Fang
Implementing NGO/CBO: Developing and Promoting Charity Organization (DEPCO): Established and operating since 2001 and registered as an organization in 2008 with aims to develop and promote learning process which would contribute to strengthening capacity of communities and linking up with concerned authorities.
Location of project: Baan (village) Tha Ta Fang which is a remote community situated in a hilly area at high altitude and a watershed of Salawin River. There are several creeks supplying water to the river. The village is not grid-connected but supplied with other kinds of fossil-based energy such as canned gas and gasoline.
Target Population: 135 families in the village of a traditional group ? Karen? the majority of which depends upon agricultural practice for livelihood and upon provisions of forest ecosystems. 70 families are project direct participants. The per capita income is THB: 18,000.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching capacity building through training and study tour
2. Launching demonstration of activities: power plant, biomass stoves, enhance carbon stock
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation /lnowledge management
Anticipated Results and Indicators:
1. Increased capacity & awareness of 90% of participating families witnessed by ability to articulate and put what being learnt into practice
2. Emergence of one micro-hydro plant of 20kW generating electricity avoiding emission of CO2 by 7.5 tons/year
3. Fabricated 70 biomass stoves being used resulting in reduction of CO2 by 56 tons/year
4. About 80 % of surrounding communities understanding and participating in activities
