Building Youth and Community Capacity in Krajae River
Implementing NGO/CBO: Studio Xang Foundation (SXF): Originally established as a CBO working on art and culture aspects with various youth groups in Chiangmai, Mae Hong Sorn and Tak Province, SXF registered as a foundation on 20 February 2012 with main objectives to support education , culture and art in the project location. In addition, SXF works in collaboration with other non-profit organizations that contribute to generating social and environmental benefits.
Location of project: A fresh water ecosystems? Krajae River? in Chiangmai Province, which is a sub basin of Ping River ,Chaophaya River and the Gulf of Thailand. The river contributes directly raw water to water work process for Chiangmai University. Due to growing urbanization, the river ecosystems is under mounting threats resulting in degradation of water quality and biological diversity therein.
Target Population: 30 families from three communities situated along the rivers at the area where urbanization is growing and communities producing community waste draining directly into the river. Majority of communities earn their living through providing general services with the per capita income of THB: 61,349.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching capacity building through survey & training
2. Launching demonstration of conservation activities through waste water treatment, monitor water quality, demarcation
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation/knowledge management
Anticipated Results and Indicators:
1. Increase capacity of targeted population witnessed by ability to build waste water filter pits for use and to monitor water quality
2. Project volunteer performing activity to maintain water quality by ionic plasma every 15 days
3. Water quality being monitored and made public and being used as model for other location in Chiangmai Province-through collaboration with major stakeholders
