Towards Food Security by Conserving and Reviving Mekong Fish Species

Implementing NGO/CBO:Community Council of Tambol Hor Kham (CCTH): Established as a registered community council with mission on local community development in all aspects: community capacity, tradition & culture, natural resource management, especially of Mekong River.
Location of project: 5 villages along Mekong Rivers in Tambol Hor Kham, Bungkarn Province, an agricultural/small scale fishing communities in Greater Mekong Sub-region, which has been experiencing over-fishing through destructive fishing gears and methods.
Target Population: 838 families in project location whose main livelihood activities depend upon the provision of Mekong ecosystems. 200 families are direct participants. The per capita income is THB: 31,000.
Main Activities to be carried out:
1.Launching capacity building / resources and local knowledge inventory
2. Launching demonstration of conservation activities through community regulations and demarcating conservation zone
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation \knowledge mangement
Anticipated Results and Indicators:
1. Compiled knowledge on relation between community livelihood and ecological function from the past to present
2. Proclaimed community regulations on fishing resulting in evinced public observation
3. At least one established no fishing zone with about 500-long as fish habitat for 11 threatened fish species.
4. Continued campaign on rehabilitation and conservation of fish species and their habitats
