Enhancing community based environmental management and climate change adaptation (chilengedwe chathu ) project
Non- conservational farming practices and short-term gains of charcoal from fuel wood have caused massive deforestation of forest reservess among communities of Traditional Authorities Simphasi and Mduwa in Mchinji district.High levels of deforestation have resulted into land degradation thereby causing soil infertility and consequently poor crop yield.
There is also low community involvement in the sustainable use of land and forests, adoption of low carbon technologies and income from Natural Resource Based Enterprises.
Objectives:
1. To improve sustainability of protected areas, customary and community conservation areas through community - based interventions in the targeted Traditional Authorities.
2. To promote the adaptation of low carbon technologies among communities
3. To increase household income through Natural Resources Based Enterprises.
