Mbanila women small-scale solar irrigation project
The impact of climate change on communities along Lake Chilwa has adversely affected food security and production.Lake Chilwa is drying up due to climate change and there is emerging evidence that agriculture based livelihoods and overall food security in the area is affected. In the area women are the most vulnerable to climate change.
Projects objective:
-To reduce the vulnerability of women to climate change in food production.
Expected Outcome:
-Improved capacity of women within the community to produce food in changing climate.
-Locally appropriate adaptive options demonstrated to reduce exposure to climate change.
-Lessons learnt in solar powered irrigation project are replicated in other areas of Lake Chilwa basin.
