Environmental resource conservation and utilization for Juma-Nkanda area, Mulanje district
Land is a very scarce commodity in Mulanje Distict. The bigger portion of land has been taken over by estate farming.Due to population density, deforestation has been one of the problems that have led to land degradation of many places including river banks and household sorrounding in the district.
The wanton cutting down of trees has even extended up to the cutting down of fruit trees. This practice is leaving the land bare thereby making it difficult to control excessive runoff resulting into excessive erosion.
