Community-based Mercury-contained Waste Investigation and Recycling
Community-based Mercury-contained Waste Investigation and Recycling
Main Problems:
Due to lacking of effective recycling and treatment of large quantity of domestic harmful waste such as waste energy-saving lamps, fluorescent lamps, many harmful waste has gone into domestic garbage, which severely pollute domestic garbage and brings serious negative impact to the environment.

The community hardware stores generate large quantity of harmful waste and also are facing the same problem. The local residents usually bring the used lamps to the hardware store when they buy the new one because they don't know the type of lamp. So that over 100 energy-saving lamps and fluorescent lamps per month are left at each the hardware store.

Solutions/activities:
1.mobilize volunteers to participate in community harmful waste recycling activities per month
2.mobilize volunteers to conduct 'investigation on flow direction and treatment of community harmful waste' and compose investigation results report.

Anticipated results/outcomes:
1. over 300 volunteers participated in project and trained with harmful waste knowledge?
2. increase 8 recycling stations of hardware stores within one year, it's expected that 10000 energy-saving lamps will be collected pr year, around 30000mg mercury to soil and water in Shanghai will be reduced.
