Building Model Community against Global Warming Through Renewable Energy
Building Model Community against Global Warming Through Renewable Energy
Implementing NGO/CBO:
Phu Kradueng Natural Farming Network (PKNET): Established in 2006 as an organization for farmers with three main objectives: to promote integrated farming, sustainable agriculture and agro-forestry, to conserve environment and natural resources through community forest management and build awareness of network members on energy and global warming through adoption of selected renewable energy in location.

Location of project:
A flat plain in a valley in the vicinity of Phu Kradueing National Park, Phu Khor Phu Kratae Wildlife Sanctuary, once rich in biodiversity and natural resources, now in degraded condition due to expansion of area for mono crop such as sugar cane, tapioca, tamarind and bamboo. The location is included in the Greater Mekong Sub-basin.

Target Population:
470 from 1,060 families in project location the majority of which earn living by practice mono-culture. Grid electricity and fossil fuel are readily available with local rate of annual consumption of several million Baht. The per capita income is THB: 23,450 (US$ 750).

Main Activities:
1.Launching capacity building of targeted population through meeting, training and seminars
2. Building/installing renewable energy systems and putting into use: high efficiency stoves,biogas,solar/wind pump and carbon sink
3. Launching dissemination of project results
4. Launching participatory evaluation

Main Anticipated Result:
1. Increase capacity of at least 20 network members on renewable energy witnessed by ability to transfer knowledge to others and install and put into use.
2. One charcoal burning kiln, 10 high-efficiency stoves, 6 biogas pits, one solar pump, and one small wind generator completed in construction/installation and put into use among at least 100 families.
3. Emergence of at least 2 learning centres to disseminate management of alternative energy
4. Emergence of a group pursuing the idea of small business on alternative energy.
5. Avoidance/reduction of CO2 as follows:
? 363 kg/year from using solar pump
? 2,359 kg/year from using biogas pits
? 1,323 kg/year from using wind turbine
6. Approximately 93.38 tons/year of CO2 being fixed into the growing 4,600 trees
