Community Empowerment in Dryland Management of Kambata Wundut Village as a buffer Manupeu Tanadaru National Park (MTNP)
GOAL
Sources of livelihoods of the people in Kambata Wundut Village is enhanced through agricultural practices that are environmentally friendly, sustainable, conserving natural resources that has a lot of potential to be developed to reduce the impact of climate change
OBJECTIVES
Objective 1 : Kambata Wundut Village has a productive land that is ready to be processed
Indicators : 1. Eightyseven members of KMPH in Kambata Wundut village managed their land productively.
2. Existing area that has been prepared to be planted by a combination of perennial crops, feed tree/nesting trees for parrots and food crops.
Activities : 1. Dissemination and data collection on member and the Governing Body (BP/ Badan Pengurus) of KMPH program managers, to ensure the number of members who will be involved in the program management.
2. Survey location of seed sources of tree species used for nests and feed, to ensure the location of the stock of required type of seed.
3. Providing perenial, local seeds (trees for nest and feed) in order to address the needs and limitations of feed trees and nesting tree around buffer zones.
4. Providing perenial crop (family forests), to address the limited availability of wood in the future
5. Opening and expansion of 43.5 hectares area of land are obligatory for each member of KMPH in order to strengthen the economic long-term investment
6. Planting and development of perenial plant in the location of member?s field to provide timber needs in the future
7. Developing food crops and vegetables, to address the needs of food security
Objective 2 : Natural resources in Kambata Wundut village are sustainably managed and sustainable
Indicators : 1. Eightyseven members of KMPH in Kambata Wundut Village understand the initial concept of climate change issue
2. Cases of forest fires is reduced, from 10 to 5 cases
3. Cases of timber extraction in the forests is reduced, from 5 to 2 cases
Activities : 1. Participatory assessment and identification of pesticides and herbicides use in dry land management
2. Conduct participatory studies on vulnerability issues of farmers? livelihoods
3. Make strips of cleared land to prevent forest fire in every members? field to become buffer boundaries between community land and forest area.
4. The governing body of KMPH disseminate the results of focused group discussion on climate change issue to the community of Kambata Wundut village
5. Communicate the results of participatory research to the stakeholders (radio, Agriculture Office, local Parliament, local newspaper)
6. KMPH conduct investigations on cases of illegal natural resources
Objective 3 : The function and role of KMPH in Kambata Wundut Village in the management and utilization of natural resources is strengthened
Indicator : Eightyseven members joined in KMPH has a capacity in program management and natural resources management in Kambata Wundut village
Activities : 1. Capacity building of the group on issues related to natural resource management and climate change
2. Training on administration and finance of the group to increase the capacity of KMPH Governing Body in the management of administration and group finance
3. Monthly meeting, to evaluate the activities every month
4. Quarterly meetings, to evaluate the activities every 3 months
5. Annual meeting, to evaluate the activity at the end of the program
6. Monitoring and Evaluation Program, to monitor the progress of activities and the achievement of targets as a material of reporting
EXPECTED OUTPUT
1. Approximately 75% of dry land managed by KMPH can be managed optimally and 87 members of KMPH can develop productive crops (perennial and food crops)
2. Output achieved from the activities in Kambata Wundut village become key lessons that can be applied to other villages around TNMT
