Development of a biodiversity training school at Tonka Island
The well known botanicus from Maroon descendants, Mr. Frits van Troon, is the driving force behind the development of a biodiversity training school on one of the islands of the articifial Afobakka lake. The Afobakka lake has been created after construction of a hydro power dam in the Suriname river. The knowledge of mr. Frits van Troon is endless and of value for Suriname, and therefore different organisations have suported the establishment of a biodiversity school, where young Surinamese people from the region and from Paramaribo, will benefit from the knowledge of the well known botanicus and from the unique biodiversity the island and the surrounding area has to offer.
