Demonstration Project on Promotion of the Ecological Aquaculture Mode to Reduce Land-based Pollution
Main problems:
1.single aquaculture species has been existing for a long time; species degradation, disease and insect pest increasing, together with sewage, threaten marine eco-system
2. marine eutrophication due to over feeding and aquaculture sewage, causes marine environment worsening and red tide at coastal area is increasing
3. water pollution caused by medicine and antibiotic misusing disturbed marine species and their habitate and threatened marine biodiversity
4. over cultivation, severe pollution, bacteria reproducing, aquaculture pool degradation and obsoletion, all have negative impact on environment and sustainable aquaculture
5. uneaten baits are staying in water, which will decompose CO2 and discharge to atmosphere and intensify marine climate change and extreme weather
Project activities:
1.establish a project committee
2. volunteers recruitment and training
3.outreach and eduction
4 workshop on fish and shrimp disease and medicine control
5 workshop on food species and feeding
6.construction of aquaculture demonstration site
7.training for local women
8.establishment of public paticipation and montoring organization and system
9.project management and coordination
10.project wrap-up meeting
Anticipated results/outcomes:
1. about 12000 tons of land-based pollution avoided
2. about 400kg chemicals avoided
3. about 6650 people's awareness on marine protection and eco-aquaculture enhanced
4. about 1500 women have the knowledge of eco-aquaculture
5. a self-governance organization established

Project Characteristics and Results
Project sustainability
A local fishermen's group has been established to frame long-term management mechanism of self-governance to ensure the sustainability of the project's successful results.
Capacity - Building Component
Capacity building is one of the component of this project. The project will organize technical trainings on eco-aquaculture.
