Dedza district is generally characterised by upland and lowlands with uneven terrain.This poses a threat to most of the productive and marginal lands due to intense run-off resulting into soli erosion and resultant land degradation.The problem is compounded by heavy deforestation and cultivation of the uplands and marginal lands.Kapesi is located along the Mulunduni hills in the North Eastern part of Dedza district in the central region of Malawi.Located in the area of Traditional Authority Kasumbu and is one of the seriously affected areas in Dedza district where due to intensive deforestation coupled with upland and marginal land cultivation,the area is gradually facing land degradation,forest resource depletion and habitat destruction.Kapesi is faced with serious charcoal burning,dryng up of productive streams,washing away of productive top soils and siltation of the productive valley during rainy season.

Projects Main Objective

The projects main objective is to build capacity of the targeted 1,000 beneficiaries in the area of Group Village Headman Kapesi of Traditional Authority Kasumbu to sustainably use and manage land and forest resources.
