Demonstration Project on Degraded Land Rehabilitation and Community Development in Gansu Longnan Mine in the Upper Reaches of the Yangtze River
Main Problems:
1. Land degradation at mine areas;
2. Poverty in local community;
3. Heavy metal contaminations in the soil after mining;
4. Low healthy level of forest;
5. Lack of technology on the control of land degradation in mine and control and prevention of heavy metal contaminations;
6. local communities are lack of awareness on pollution control and prevention
Project activities/solution:
1. To develop a participatory community development plan;
2. To restore the vegetation of degraded mines thought 300 Mu afforestration;
3. To conduct close-to-nature modification for 1000 Mu natural secondary forest;
4. To implement agro-forestry management in 150 Mu land;
5. at least 1000 persons participate in capacity development on agro-forest management, close-to-nature forest management, environmental protection and health knowledge
anticipated results/outcomes:
1. A participatory community development plan developed;
2. The vegetation of mine restored by 300 Mu afforestration;
3. close-to nature forest management practise applied in 1000 Mu of natural secondary forest;
4. 150 Mu of forest is under agro-forest management (50 Mu each for forest-medicine, forest-grass, and forest-mushroom);
5. The capacity of self-development and environmental protection enhanced in the community
