The project collected data of three fish conservation in 3 villages and also conducted data on conservation of watershed and promoted planting cardamom in 13 villages. The project team also carried out an inception workshop of which 150 participants attended the activity and are coming from district and village level of which 50% involve were women. The distribution of cardamom seeds at 7 targeted villages was also completed covering 18 hectares of the expected 90 hectares project area. The establishment of three fish conservation areas along Nam Ou was also accomplished with a total length of 1,020 meters. Active participation of the communities in project implementation have been inherently strong.

To date, Cardamom planting was carried out by members in five target villages, an approximately 193,600 seedlings have been planted in 17 hectares of land totaling 58 million kip. A sizable number of families received the planting materials totaling to 314 families. Major challenge faced by the project is the isolation of the project site coupled with poor road conditions. In the rainy season transportation of planting materials can be difficult. To compensate for the difficulties the project team suggested that delivery of materials will commence early. However, since 2009 it has been thought that Cardamon growing prove to have significantly increase the income of villages, the project deemed that this project is a noteworthy scheme. Cardamon growing can also be integrated with other large trees, a potential ideal crop for agro-forestry. Another major problem in the areas is the rapid expansion of sugarcane plantation brought about by foreign direst investment, the community themselves realized that expansion of sugarcane plantation will have detrimental effects to the natural resources as it is water intensive coupled with uncontrolled use of inorganic fertilizers. The Project team provided signage on the rules and regulations of the established fish conservation areas andn placed conveniently at the entrance of the villages and at the nearby Nam Ou River that will serve as a reminder to the people utilizing the river.
