Produção de Plantas Florestais
Lagoa is located within the Parque Natural de Moroços boundaries, Planalto Leste, Santo Antão Island. It is a poor rural area, and like other communities in Santo Antão, loss of arable land is an ongoing challenge for all small farmers.
In response to the challenge above, and to enable local community to be have updated information on soil erosion processes, and its consequences, the Association of Luz Viva decided to implement the «Production of Forest Plants» project.
This project consists in reforesting 5 ha of degraded areas within and around park areas. It also promotes and implements small anti erosion structures (locally called «arretos» which are small terraces) in small farms zones, as a way to decrease loss of arable land. Training in land conservation and anti-degradation workshop is promoted aiming to enhance capacities of small farmers.
